Barely a week after launching a 6 months hunger response programme in Lilongwe, Moyo Ngwathu has today donated medical equipment worth K27.5 million to Chitedze Health Centre in Lilongwe to help improve services at the facility.

The equipment includes 22 adjustable electric beds, mattresses, trolleys and bedside cabinets.

Speaking during the handover of the equipment, Moyo Ngwathu chief executive officer Ringo Kanshulu came up with the donation after noting that the health facility had acute shortage of beds and other items. He said some patients were sleeping on the floor and Moyo Ngwathu was concerned with the poor conditions that patients were being subjected to.

“This facility serves a population of over 70 000 people as such there is alot of pressure on the facility.

“When we came to appreciate the challenges that the facility was facing, we found that most of the patients were sleeping on mats and that is not good in terms of infection prevention,” said Kanshulu.

Moyo Ngwathu engaged ONG open hand for Malawi, a non governmental organisation in Luxembourg, to support it with the resources and come to the rescue of Chitedze health centre.

ONG Open Hand for Malawi chairperson Veronique Weis said her organisation felt duty bound to partner with Moyo Ngwathu to support Chitedze Health Centre so that patients access health services in a conducive environment.

Lilongwe district medical officer Mackson Zephaniah saluted Moyo Ngwathu and ONG Open Hand For Malawi for donation saying it will help ease challenges that the health centre is facing.

He called on the two institutions to also consider providing delivery beds, monitoring machines and other equipment saying the facility has many challenges.

“This facility deserves to be a community hospital considering the size of the population it serves. The support given will help in ensuring that it becomes a community hospital,” said Zephaniah.

Senior chief M’bwatalika commended Moyo Ngwathu for the various interventions it is making in the area of M’bwatalika saying they are helping promote welfare of people.

Earlier this year Moyo Ngwathu handed over to government a full primary school in Lilongwe worth over K500 million.
